Project Overview

Perched on the 42nd floor of a landmark Upper East Side tower, this full-floor penthouse presented a rare opportunity: to transform 4,200 square feet of raw potential into a sanctuary that reconciles grand Manhattan views with the intimacy of a private retreat.

The clients — a couple who divide their time between New York and London — sought a home that felt calm, layered, and timeless. Not a showpiece, but a place of genuine comfort with every detail considered.

THE CHALLENGE

The original layout was a conventional open-plan with poorly positioned columns and a kitchen that turned its back on the panoramic views. Every room competed with the windows instead of framing them.

THE APPROACH

We reorganized the entire plan around the view axis. The living spaces orbit a central walnut-clad volume containing the kitchen and utilities, while floor-to-ceiling glazing becomes the permanent backdrop to daily life.

THE RESULT

A home that feels both expansive and intimate — warm American walnut, honed Calacatta marble, and brushed brass create a material language that unifies every room while the skyline provides ever-changing art.
